Arms Around You

The experience of incarceration has detrimental effects on personal and community health. Even after people have “paid their debt to society”, they continue to pay financial, emotional, and physical costs.

Arms Around You (AAY) and Fresh Start Professional Services (FSPS) launched an innovative partnership to address systemic injustices and increase health for individuals who have been impacted by the criminal legal system.

They created a multifaceted, culturally responsive resource for people to get holistic support in achieving their reentry goals for physical and mental health (including substance use disorders), as well as reentry goals that address social determinants of health​​ (SDoH) needs. Their programming was designed with the specific experiences of Black/African American individuals in mind and is available to all people who otherwise meet the criteria for participation.
