Solid Ground
Food Farmacia, a free farm stand located at the South Park and now White Center Sea Mar Health Clinics, works to empower positive health outcomes by providing opportunities for Sea Mar patients to understand nutrition needs while co-creating an accessible space to procure fresh produce. Produce for the Food Farmacia is donated by Solid Ground’s nearby Giving Garden at Marra Farm, run by their Community Food Education team. Additional produce is purchased from local Black, Indigenous, and people of color (BIPOC) farmers to provide diverse and familiar options.
Their partnership provides free, fresh, and local produce to South Park and White Center Sea Mar patients. This project connects healthcare patients directly to a resource for the produce they are being recommended by Sea Mar Health Educators to manage their chronic health conditions and provides another opportunity to connect with their Health Educators to gain the resources and confidence to use the offered recipes.
This innovation also supports local food systems, re-investing in community by working with local nonprofits and BIPOC farmers while supporting residents to live healthier lives toward greater food and heath equity in South Seattle.
“Not only has our innovation paved the way for long-term change for individuals managing chronic health conditions, but it has also created new opportunities for us to witness what we can achieve together when driven by the voices of our community.”
