HealthierHere is investing $600,000 in 12 local food assistance providers across King County through its second round of Food Assistance Investment grants. The investment comes at a critical moment, as food assistance providers across the region are doing more with fewer resources, and when every dollar and every bag of groceries counts.
Demand is surging from families, seniors, people living with chronic conditions, immigrants and refugees, and individuals experiencing homelessness. At the same time, federal programs like SNAP and WIC face cuts and eligibility changes that shrink the resources community members depend on. The pressure is real, and it is being felt every single day on the front lines of our regional food system.
Grantees will use awards ranging from $25,000 to $200,000 to purchase and distribute food to individuals and families in need. With the funding, partners will be able to feed 800,000 people with up to 10 million pounds of food.
The selected organizations range from neighborhood food programs serving hard-to-reach residents to large-scale food banks distributing millions of pounds of food each year. Across the different corners of King County, they keep neighbors fed in communities every day.
“We are honored to receive funds from HealthierHere to support our program delivering high quality, culturally relevant food to our communities. We are aligned partners as we all work toward improving the health and well-being of members of South King County.” - Kirsten York, CEO, Multi-Service Center (MSC)
