Behind every Community Based Organization are people working to connect their neighbors with care and support. Sustaining that work takes more than dedication. It takes reliable funding, strong internal systems, and opportunities to learn alongside peers.
HealthierHere’s Capacity Building Program invests in those foundations. Through tailored training, one-on-one coaching, peer learning, and funding, the program helps King County organizations strengthen their financial, operational, and data systems while preparing for future contracting opportunities.
The 2026 Capacity Building Impact Report shares what that investment has made possible. Across three cohorts from spring 2025 through spring 2026, the program supported:
- 11 partner organizations
- More than $730,000 in total program investment
- 58 completed partner goals
With dedicated funding and support, partners had the space to focus on the systems that sustain their work. Compensating organizations for their time and progress made that participation possible alongside their ongoing commitments to community.
The work translated into tangible infrastructure. Across the program, partner organizations:
- Developed and adopted formal fiscal policies, including cash flow contingency plans, conflict-of-interest policies, and guidance on allowable costs.
- Strengthened privacy, security, and data management policies, including standardized protocols for accessing, retaining, and destroying client data.
- Improved risk and audit readiness by completing risk registers and preparing documentation for organizational and federal audits.
- Standardized internal processes and resources, including controls, checklists, employee handbooks, staff training plans, and onboarding materials.
- Implemented new financial and data security systems, including general ledgers, payroll systems, and software installations on work devices.
- Clarified job descriptions and staff responsibilities.
- Established relationships with external consultants.
The impact is continuing beyond the cohorts. At a one-year follow-up, all six organizations from the first cohort reported taking steps toward government funding, and two had secured new government funding.
These results reflect the work and knowledge of community-rooted partners. Investing in their organizational foundations helps sustain the trusted relationships that connect people to care.
