Mirella Young (she/her) joins us as HealthierHere's new Community Hub Operations Specialist! Read more in Mirella's welcome interview below:

What are you most looking forward to working with HealthierHere and our partners?

At HealthierHere, I am so excited to be connecting community members with a person who understands their needs on a linguistic and cultural level, and will work with them to overcome those specific challenges.

What drives your passion for this work?

In my years working at 211, I was able to speak with all different types of people in our community and understand their needs, as well as the barriers they experienced in trying to get those needs met. I know what resources are available to those needing help, and I know how vastly the resources in our area are outweighed by the number of people who need them. I heard more and more people expressing defeat or frustration, because they cannot get the help they need.  I grew to become dismayed at not always being able to provide helpful resources that my clients could realistically utilize. This is what drives me to desire to be part of a new system working to connect those vulnerable people with the resources they desperately need, with compassion and understanding for their specific linguistic, cultural, and social needs.

What is something about you that others might not know?

I've been part of a rainbow-themed costuming group since 2009. We create about 1 outfit per year in a specific theme, each of us in our own favorite color. Some of our past themes include: mermaids, flower fairies, 1950's peacocks, and Norse deities.
